7 NOVEMBER 10.00AM MANCHESTER UNITED STADIUM – VENDEX NORTH

As part of the Vendex North Show 7 November 2017, the Beverage Standards Association is holding its annual Barista Challenge and is inviting all Manchester baristas to take part. So if you work as barista (coffee maker) in an independent or retail brand coffee shop, this could be your chance to shine!

The challenge is to make a range of drinks against the clock which will be judged for excellence and accuracy by the panel of expert judges and will need to meet the agreed standards laid down by the BSA in its accreditation procedure.

The event is compared by international barista competition judge and trainer Jon Skinner and will be a live feature of the Show.

Steve Slark, Director of the BSA said: “These challenges will bring a light hearted, competitive yet rewarding edge to the show.  Competitors will be making four drinks, two to three coffees such as Cappuccino, Americano, Latte, one tea and one hot chocolate under timed conditions. Everyone competes on the same equipment and the drinks all have to be made in the right order – for example the espresso is made last as it needs to be piping hot and fresh. Tension is always high in these competitions as baristas are pitted against each other – it makes great theatre and visitors to the Show on 7 November will enjoy the competitions.”

There is no need to register, just turn up on the day – entry is free and parking is also free at the Manchester United stadium on 7 November.  Just follow the signs for Vendex North and ask for the Barista Challenge.
